Country Quiz – I’m Ireland!!

October 21st, 2005 at 4:51 pm (General)

I’m Ireland, the country I want to visit next. My great-grandmother immigrated from Ireland when she was in her 20’s after getting beat up by Catholic kids in the neighborhood for wearing orange peels on St. Patrick’s Day.

You’re Ireland!

Mystical and rain-soaked, you remain mysterious to many people, and this
makes you intriguing. You also like a good night at the pub, though many are just as
worried that you will blow up the pub as drink your beverage of choice. You’re good
with words, remarkably lucky, and know and enjoy at least fifteen ways of eating a potato.
You really don’t like snakes.

I’m a Theory of Justice?

October 21st, 2005 at 4:39 pm (General)

You’re A Theory of Justice!

by John Rawls

In the beginning, you lived in a town. The town had many problems!
Rather than moving, you decided to come up with the idea for the best town ever. Going
all the way back to the original position, you created the idea for the best town ever!
Lo and behold, the best town ever looked almost identical to the town you lived in. You
decided to stay in the town. Now you resent people mistaking your refined thought
experiments for “the wall of stupidity” in high school debate
rounds.

I would have never thought that I was John Rawls. At least the political theory is right!

TomKitten Reduex

Okay, I’ve tried not to be too judgmental about this TomKat relationship – Katie being too young and meek, Tom acting crazy, the whole Scientology thing… but isn’t this all too quick? Meet in March, engaged in June, pregnant in October… maybe married by December and divorced by March??

Of course, I was engaged for 4 and 1/2 years…

Katie Holmes says she’s ecstatic about being pregnant — even if she’s not jumping on couches. “It’s a dream come true,” the actress said on the syndicated entertainment news show “Access Hollywood” Thursday. “I feel great, (being pregnant) is so beautiful. I’ve never been so happy. … I’m beaming. Holmes, 26, and Tom Cruise, 43, became engaged in June. Her pregnancy was first reported earlier this month. In preparation, Holmes said she and Cruise are putting together a baby room and that she’s learning how to knit.

Former Secretary of State on Gilmore Girls.

October 20th, 2005 at 5:53 pm (General)

I love Gilmore Girls, but I have no idea how it has had Norman Mailer and Madeleine Albright to star on the show. Can’t wait to see the episode. Have to start watching the episodes that are on the DVR.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has put diplomacy to one side to guest star in popular TV show Gilmore Girls. Bill Clinton’s right-hand woman appeared alongside actress Alexis Bledel, who plays Rory Gilmore, in a storyline focusing on Rory’s continued estrangement with her fictional mother. The politician admits to being a staunch devotee of the series, and was thrilled to turn up on set for her shoot at the end of last month. Albright says, “I am a big fan of Gilmore Girls and I had a great time. It was an opportunity to do something different for a quick minute, and I learned how hard it is to memorize those lines.” And bosses of the show were thrilled with the stateswoman’s performance. Executive Producer Amy Sherman-Palladino says, “If you think she seems brilliant and sassy strutting around the Middle East, you should try talking to her in person. We are very honored, very lucky, and so not worthy.” Albright joins the likes of Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Norman Mailer and singer-songwriter Carole King who have also had cameos on the program.

The first blog

October 20th, 2005 at 5:11 pm (General)

Okay, the husband has been saying that I should try doing this for quite a while, so here it goes. This is my first blog entry. My thinking is that I will write about things that matter to me, to vent my spleen, or to just rant. The usual for the blogging world. I have been resistant to blogging for awhile, not wanting people to figure out what I was up to. But with buying a new laptop and the increasing stress of my job, it seemed like a good time. So here I am, GadamerGirl.

A bit about me. I am in my early 30’s, educated in political theory and now working in survey research at a large research university. I’ve now been seduced into the ‘dark side’ of survey methodology and am currently pursuing graduate work in that.

I married about a year and a half ago to my husband who I have known for about nine years. He’s the best thing in my life. It’s his birthday today — right now, he’s talking to his mom and celebrating the fact that he was born (or so I hope).

I grew up in a small town in Ohio, on a farm. I have the usual family members – Mom, Dad and Brother. They are the most important people in my life (after my Husband).

Enough of that for now.
